You don’t have to be an expert in pedagogy to be an exceptional instructional leader. But you have to be an expert in connecting with teachers… and you have to be curious about instruction… and have good conversations with teachers that promote self-reflection.

As a teacher, knowing my content helps kids learn. (Effect size=0.13, less than a year's learning potential) Knowing my kids & connecting with them helps kids learn a whole lot more. Know your content AND your kids.
