A1: Excellent admins are ones who balance the decisions they have to make while empowering those they lead to be a part of the process. They have to be decisive, but also willing to share leadership when they can #utedchat

A2: Recognize/then utilize talent. Clear/concise communication on policies that impact the Ts, involve the building leaders often. Assume good intent. Remember that Ts are on the court vs the admin as the GM. Policies feel diff. at diff. distances from the classroom #utedchat

A3: Ts should understand that admin have a ton of paperwork, reports, meetings, and having to understand big picture stuff that Ts may not be aware of. So know they are busy, and solutions oriented discussions, while showing you understand their efforts #utedchat

A4: It may seem that admin is just looking for what's not working, & not realizing the evals are somewhat w/o context of prior lessons/interactions. What's good is when its all about improving what I do. Our admin make their 1st evals. to only be about positives #utedchat

A5: Its complex, b/c you do have some admin that had little classroom experience or they lose the feel of the classroom. It comes down to empathetic listening by both sides, & not assuming an adversarial relationship. Commonly created goals, & clear communication #utedchat

A4 Feeling like you should lead, being allowed to lead by those ahead of you, having the resources/support to lead effectively. #eduhive

"Hey LeBron you should coach" LeBron stays on the court and Teacher leaders should be able stay in the classroom. #uted #utpol Can help designate/compensate these teacher leaders.

Hey #utedchat Stephan Seabury here. HS teacher of various Hist/gov class at Providence Hall High School. I love when my students apply the skills of gov/hist in their thinking. You can see them creating new pathways of how/why they understand the content in/outside of class.

A1: Teacher leadership means not just leading your Ss, but leading in your profession. That could be creating new ideas in your classroom, sharing ideas with colleagues or finding ways to improve your school or even state policy #utedchat

Stephan Seabury (@mr_seabiscuit) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A2: We can start by just sharing our ideas with the person next door. You see something that improved your teaching, then share it. It grows from there as you start going to Edcamps, confs..etc and sharing what you've learned. #utedchat

Stephan Seabury (@mr_seabiscuit) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A4: All the above. Ts don't get training on leading, we get content and classroom management. So Ts need opportunities to lead, support do so through things like the the Portrait of a Teacher leader or the Roles of UT teacher leader guidebook, and time/compensation. #utedchat

A6: The future will be the creation of new teacher leader career paths that don't lead out of the classroom. Ts will collectively gain leadership positions similar to other professions. This happens as we support policy, funding, & the creation of these career options #utedchat
