Working for your book’s publisher HobnobPress means you can check the file before it gets sent to the printer. It looked good as it went, apart from page 132 which can’t be helped. Book launch is in the village hall at Kington St Michael 13/6. 🎉🥳

Amazing how may places in this 1633 survey of Maiden Bradley can be located on modern maps. My favourite so far is Elizabeth Rowe's new house, recently built in a pit (i.e. hollow) called Catbench @WiltsHistory

It’s going to be such a pleasure to welcome my former colleague, research partner & wonderful friend Hannah Worthen to speak at this Centre for the History of People Place & Community seminar. It will be excellent. The Risky_Cities team have developed innovative approaches to participatory history. Can’t wait!

All are welcome to this session, but it may be of particular interest to local #VCH groups (and perhaps other local history societies), exploring self-publishing options. Join us online to learn from others' experiences, and to ask your questions. BALH Society for One-Place Studies 1⃣🏘️🔎

After debunking a few myths this week about Maud Heath, in September, some Victoria County History friends (Mark Forrest, Grace Owen, John Chandler, Hobnob & more) and I will be delving into women’s lives before 1600 and possibly debunking a few more. 😁

Sherborne Abbey robbery, police statement: "We are keen to trace the movement of the offenders in the areas of Hospital Lane, Abbey Road, Church Lane and Half Moon Street so I would ask local residents to please check their home CCTV"

#ComingSoon (ish). A very special #BigRedBook. 📕 This volume will be our first *ever* publication for the historic county of Westmorland, and the first Red Book from VCH_Cumbria. It covers the Lonsdale Ward, Lune valley, and Kirkby Lonsdale from prehistory to the present.

On 21 Sep there is a free event in Chippenham exploring the lives of women before 1600 (inc👇supposedly the ex abbess of Wilton). I am sharing stories developed from my @WiltsHistory research accompanied by some fab Victoria County History talent eg Catherine Clarke. ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/wilts…

A highlight of Saturday's Study Day from @WiltsHistory at Heritage@WSHC was seeing two of our colleagues (John Chandler, Hobnob & Mary Sirault) wearing their VCH Outstanding Contribution Awards. The 'Gold Blue Peter Badge' of the VCH world, nominated by the VCH community ❤️ Victoria County History

Today I have written about a 16th cent. witchcraft accusation & a community response to WWII for Victoria County History, but it could equally have been about Saxon boundaries, the 17th cent. sequestration of a living or a housing development currently being built. VCH work is fab but hard.

Louise will be talking about further witchcraft research in her lecture “Witchcraft & Tudor Salisbury” on Monday 4th November 6.30 at Salisbury Museum for the 2024 launch of Sarum Chronicle. Details: sarumchronicle.wordpress.com/about/sarum-ch…
