I was recently ribbed for using AI to write something because I made heavy use of em dashes. I just counted, and in my first public blog post from 2020, I used 19. LLMs merely adopted the em dash.

Once every so often, I see an opportunity to do a little good in the world with our data. It's usually a small project or coming from a person I don't recognize. My instinct is to ignore it and move on. But Jarlath's memory tugs at me, and I say yes. That's how I honor him.

today I was locked in ripping emails and I "came to" only to realize I was listening to "Brush Your Teeth" and I had been listening to my toddler's favorite songs playlist for like 15 minutes fully in the zone

Got the images back from Rybachiy Submarine Base (52.9112°, 158.49244°). Acquired 2025-07-30 10:18Z. Some notable changes: looks like a pier snapped in half from the wave. First image is Google/Maxar from earlier this year, second image is Umbra SAR post-event.

There are a bunch of new SAR companies being started around the world. One kind of nice thing about this industry is that you typically see your competition coming from a loooooooong way off

I grumble when I have to read my toddler the same book five times in a row, but then a day later he will recount the plot to me with excruciating effort through limited vocabulary and I’ll melt realizing it’s the most exciting story he knows and I’ve helped broaden his world
