Carrying a little 'moth pot' has paid dividends this year resulting in the temporary capture of this beautiful Flame Crest (Chrysoesthia drurella).

Four more for you! The rare Morophaga choragella, a first for me. The always photogenic Buff-tip, how could I leave it out?! The imposing Bulrush Wainscot, with its subtle brown beauty. A nicely marked Ruby Tiger, always a joy. Somerset Moth Group Somerset Wildlife Trust

To bring my moth homework to date, some moths from Clevedon this week. Bob & Tim had Scarce Bordered Straw. The attached is from Bob's garden (5th) which also produced Crescent Dart (6th). Also Palpita vitrealis (6th) & Mocha (7th) from my garden. Moth yearlist to 405 species. 😀

Bob's garden trap this produced (I believe) our third patch Spiny Hook-tip. I scratch my head on identification. Records in last ten days from Stone Allerton & Weston-super-mare & regular in Bristol. With no south coast records, an adventive for me? Certainly resident locally. 🧐

Moth catch up needed. 140+ (5 lights) & c70 species (3 lights) at Watercress Farm, Nailsea Sunday & Monday. c100 species (2 lights) at Dungeness last night. Rude not to trap for a few hours as I headed across to see sean clancy. 😀 Cryptic Fern, New Romney, 13th August 2024.

Scarce bordered straw and silver Y appeared early in tonight's moth trapping session, accompanied by multiple kamikaze hornets that found the head torch a source of amusement (not shared). Retreated with fingers crossed for more migrants overnight. Somerset Moth Group
