This evening the goverment shut the door for new applications on the new environmental scheme (SFI) that was supposed to be the replacement (if the farmer was environmentally progressive) of the old subsidies Farmers can NOT now apply for new environmental support

In the news again today are calls to row back on the UK’s zero carbon policy, on the grounds it costs too much. No it doesn’t, it’s an absolute bargain, compared with trying to pay for the consequences of failing to decarbonise. Also many jobs to gain. pik-potsdam.de/en/news/latest…

The virtue con of net zero. While the ‘elites’ within the richest 1% tell us plebs to offset our carbon footprint and pay more tax, they continue to swan around in private jets and motorcades. Treating us like serfs while they indulge in modern feudalism.

This is the crew chosen to advise on our broken food system? Only one ‘farmer’ and without being rude (and from the internet) he’s an industrial-scale pig farmer/lobbyist who no longer farms? There are so many people with great ideas and loads of credibility and we get this

Been a busy winter. Created loads of new habitats, including woodland, scrub, and wetlands. We’ve changed the farm from 12 fields to over 50 - gives us loads of edge habitats and way more grazing cells.

The latest goverment guff about farming is… “The problem with farming is the lack of profitability” This is a short thread on why this sensible-sounding focus should be treated with great suspicion… A 🧵

I still think represents the most shocking void in the UK’s COVID response - when the largest biomedical facility offered to undertake testing (many universities did the same) the government didn’t even answer. The cost would have been minimal. Was it really that no-one would

Heartbreaking evidence at the UK Covid-19 Inquiry this morning. The government delayed adding loss of smell & taste to list of symptoms because data 'came from an app'. Prof. Timothy Spector says this 'undoubtedly' led to preventable transmission. Criminal negligence.

Can someone explain to me how we can cheapen food, end farm support, retain domestic food production, have food security and create a more sustainable and nature friendly farming system? No? OK thanks

Love these time lapses of our farm changing… 15 years in four images Wish we had one from ten years earlier as it was mid change 15 years ago

Next stage - application. Into the front tank on the drill with molasses to feed the biology, aeration to help multiply/keep alive?!. Peristaltic pump delivers the compost tea onto and around the seed as it enters the soil. Wonder if we will see any benefit?

🚨 URGENT 🚨 Any farmer who was about to put in an SFI application just before the application process was shut please speak to National Farmers' Union CallFirst helpline and explain. We need more evidence to present. Alternatively send me a DM with your telephone number Thanks.

Being in Ireland and talking to new friends there has got my head spinning, in a good way They understand that the rural is deeply political, that it’s part of the resistance - that our values from our rooted local cultures define who we are and how we go best in to the future

Have spoken to about 200 Cumbrians in the last week about the rewilding projects for Cumbria Have never know people here so unified on agreement that something that might have been good has become a scam…

Your kids can live & play without a plastic turf field. Urge your city & school board to invest in professional management of real grass rather than on an artificial turf field that breaks down into billions of invisible particles.
