As Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close we’d like to remind everyone that many people struggle with stress, loneliness, and/or anxiety. There’s no shame in needing extra support or help. Looking after your mental health is important.

Don’t Be That Guy Who...Burns more than the burgers. 1: Keep your grill clean & never leave it unattended while cooking. 2: Place the grill well away from your structures & vegetation. 3: Keep a fire extinguisher nearby/know how to use it. 4: Pay attention to weather conditions.

It’s positively scorching, but even when it doesn’t feel that hot outside the temperature inside a vehicle can rise to deadly levels quickly. Children & pets left inside can succumb to heat exhaustion & heat stroke. Never leave children and pets in a car alone.

Don’t be That Guy Who… Messes up the trip to the lake. 1: Always swim in designated areas/heed safety instructions. 2: Never swim alone. 3: Avoid alcohol when swimming/operating a boat. 4: Make sure you & everyone with you is wearing safety gear. 5: Download a shark tracker app.

Some eagle-eyed community members may have noticed that a different badge has been used in our communications materials occasionally over the last few months. We are glad to be able to switch to our new badge across our social media accounts today.

MPD team member, Officer Rexhepi recently left for a 1 year deployment with the United States Army. The PD got him a care package to help send him off. We hope he has a good deployment, safe travels, and thank him for his service to our community and our country!

The Montrose Police Department will be stepping up parking enforcement in the City of Montrose. To avoid a parking ticket brush up on your knowledge of parking rules and make sure you comply with all official road signs and instructions.

Given the weather the last few days, and what is (allegedly) in the forecast, this is a good time to ensure you are ready for winter driving. Winterize your vehicle and prepare an emergency kit, even for short trips.

We often see cars parked facing the wrong direction on our city streets. Please remember parking facing the wrong direction is dangerous and illegal and could therefore result in a parking ticket. When parallel parking on the street park facing the direction of traffic flow.

Don’t forget if you are parking on the street in a parallel parking area such as the 300 block of E. Main St, always park within 12 inches of the curb and make sure you are parallel to it.

Help keep our roadways safe for all users and avoid a parking ticket by ensuring you do not park in any of the following locations: On sidewalks, in crosswalks, within intersections, or here parking is prohibited as indicated by signage.

Do not park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, and never park in front of a fire hydrant, even for a moment. Avoid getting a parking ticket and help keep our roadways safe for everyone to use by making sure you are legally parked.
