Artists and activists gathered in Rotterdam to protest Afghanistan’s gender apartheid, where women are banned from schools, work, gyms, parks, showing their faces, or even speaking loudly. Afghan women need global solidarity in their fight against the Taliban.

Hamza Ulfat, a Hazara activist from Afghanistan who supported women’s protests after the Taliban’s return, was jailed and tortured in Taliban custody. He died shortly after his release. Hazaras, mostly Shia, have faced historical discrimination in Afghanistan.

Afghan cricket stars have said nothing in support of women cricketers after the Taliban’s ban. The least they could do is tweet in support. Do they just not care about women’s sports? What’s stopping them? Would the Taliban jail or kill them? I doubt it.
