There's no such thing as "core Ukraine"-- not according to intl law, history, identity issues, or preferences of the people living there. Haas comes across as looking out for Ru's interests in this war and offering a "compromise" that no Ru rep is now offering. A crying shame.

One of those things you hear is “it’s Biden’s decision to make.” May be legally correct given nomination rules, but it isn’t a great normative stance — there are no property rights to public office

As a scholar of authoritarian regimes, no surprise that Maduro declared himself the winner. They all do: voices.uchicago.edu/ksonin/files/2…. Now, the hard part for the Venezuelan autocrat: he needs to survive the protests against the stolen elections. Not all dictators do.

There's evidence in this vein in Ipek Cinar 's dissertation. She points out that if we do hear oppositions fixate on incumbents' undemocratic behavior, it's because the opposition has no achievements in office that it could claim credit for. Not so with this administration!

One day I will stop writing books with macabre covers, but alas, it is not this day. The design teams at Basic Books and Basic Books UK are absolute pros, however, and I don't know which cover better conveys the story I tell.

Lovely to come back from APSA with this recognition from the Conflict Processes section. It was so nice to use this as an opportunity to connect with old friends from the Peace Science/Conflict Processes community. See you again in AA, Mich.

Our aerial tour of picturesque Hyde Park goes beyond campus and down 57th Street—a charming stretch of the neighborhood, which is home to independently owned cafés, restaurants and shops.

Twenty-five years ago, I defended my MA in Warsaw, comparing measurement assumptions in two prominent theories of justice. Today, the key points of it are published in the Journal of Theoretical Politics in a series of articles on 'Uses of Formal Theory' journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/09…
