The rise in commodity prices has fueled a surge in thefts of copper and catalytic converters across the world. That’s why I’m working with Senator Sean Ryan on legislation to regulate and track sales of scrap metals to discourage theft and help law enforcement arrest offenders.

I recently toured the new Cheektowaga Police training facility, made possible thanks to $150,000 in state funds I secured and another $500,000 in county funds delivered by Tim Meyers. This facility will help our brave law enforcement officers protect and serve the community.

Earlier this year, I passed a resolution recognizing National Veterans & Military Families Month for the first time in NYS. The heroes who risk everything for our nation deserve more than one day, and the families who sacrifice so much to support them also deserve recognition.

This month, we recognize the history, heritage, and culture of our nation's first inhabitants. The customs and contributions of Native Americans are vital to the American story. I encourage everyone to take some time this month to learn more about this rich history.

Thank you to all who answered the call and served our nation courageously in the armed forces. Your bravery and sacrifice safeguards our nation and our freedoms.
