It’s me. I’m a “few bins short of a full load.” Walked on the offside of truck as husband through straps. Not smart. Caught the hook-end in the face. Fortunately my cheek, not an eye or mouth.

Blue. Beautiful blue October sky. Blue tractor bringing bins of Fuji apples. Feeling a little blue: almost done with Apple Harvest 2024. A huge relief but a little sad, too. I miss the guys and the beauty of days like this.

This guy is a stalwart member of our apple crew. He heads home to Haiti tomorrow. I’m happy he’ll be reunited with his family and farm but I’ll miss him dearly!

I’m on this soapbox again: Pumpkin Spice … ok. But Apples are the quintessential Fall flavor! 🍎 🍏 🍎🍏🍎🍏🍎🍏🍎

This is my dil’s content… but she’s not wrong. Empire are a truly NY apple…great, all-purpose variety. But getting squeezed out by newer varieties, most of which are costly, club varieties. 🥲

Morning walk, post-harvest. Apple harvest quite early in this area. Even growers with late varieties wrapping up soon. Lots to reflect on: what went right/wrong? Where can we do better (pruning, thinning!)? What to remove? What to plant? Should we stay or should we go?!?

We’ve had some glorious Fall weather. Guess that’s over and today we’re back to chilly days. That “Red Bull” 🐂 is horribly noisy. Starts a low, rumbling, bellering whenever anyone is near.

Took the day and went to Toronto. Royal Winter Fair: pumpkins, livestock, sheaves of wheat, horse show. Husband helped friends with Percheron group class. Great to reminisce and recall when we showed Percherons.

Few phrases shake you like, “the cows are out.” Got home from dentist just in time to help put feeders back in. Fortunately they hadn’t gone far and they’re calm and manageable. 🐂😀
