The European Commission's proposal to impose tariffs on fertilizer imports from 🇧🇾 and 🇷🇺 is a step in the right direction, but much more is needed. Imports of Russian fertilizers keep rising, threatening EU autonomy & food security. A faster & more effective response is needed, now.
I welcome the European Commission's recognition of #fertilizers as key to both food security in its Vision on agriculture and food. The fertilizer industry is vital in ensuring Europe's strategic autonomy, but we need the right policy framework to drive a sustainable transformation.
1⃣ year after the #AntwerpDeclaration, 400 business leaders, incl. Yara's CEO Svein Tore Holsether, met to discuss the #CleanIndustrialDeal with President Ursula von der Leyen. Yara endorses the deal, but now it's time for the EU to act to reinforce Europe's competitiveness while decarbonizing.
Today's broad support from 🇪🇺 Member States for the European Commission's proposal to impose #tariffs on Russian fertilizers is a key step to ensure fair competition & protect EU production. A strong domestic industry is crucial for Europe’s food security & long-term competitiveness.
Our CEO Svein Tore Holsether met with Ursula von der Leyen to discuss solutions to strengthen 🇪🇺 #competitiveness. A supportive policy framework is key & should include: 1️⃣ Export solution for CBAM 2️⃣ Reliable access to affordable energy 3️⃣ Incentives to boost demand for EU low-carbon products
Fertilizer is the new gas. Europe aims to cut Russian gas imports, but fertilizer imports increased since the invasion, up 48% last agricultural season. EU institutions must protect our autonomy & food security. Discussed this w/ BBC News (World) (from 16:10): bbc.in/4mfeevc
The European Parliament vote to introduce tariffs on 🇷🇺 & 🇧🇾 fertilizer imports confirms the EU’s commitment to a strong domestic fertilizer industry. Swift implementation is vital to level the playing field, reduce external dependencies, and safeguard long-term food security.
A strong European fertilizer industry is the backbone of a competitive & resilient Europe. Today, the European Parliament confirmed its commitment to this strategic priority. A swift introduction of tariffs on 🇷🇺 & 🇧🇾 fertilizers is vital for the future of our sector & food system.
Decarbonizing Europe’s fertilizer sector is a cornerstone of our broader clean industrial transformation. I look forward to this Friday's roundtable on investing in Europe’s clean future with Teresa Ribera & Nadia Calviño to explore how we can accelerate the transition together.
Inspiring visit at Yara’s R&D center in Dülmen with our CEO Svein Tore Holsether and the Group Executive Board. 🔬 The YARD team’s passion and work in plant nutrition, biologicals and digital innovation highlights the strategic research driving sustainable agriculture forward.🌱
Spain’s entry into the World Economic Forum First Movers Coalition shows real commitment to tackle the climate emergency. As a founding member, Yara is ready to scale up clean ammonia for fertilizer, energy & transport, but only bold policies & collective action can drive #decarbonization.
At World Agri-Tech, I shared how Yara is innovating at field & plant level with digital tools, lower carbon footprint fertilizers & biostimulants to grow food sustainably & cut emissions. But innovation at scale needs public support to reach farmers & transform the food system.
