This is a very difficult tweet to write. Extremely sad to share that Howard Berg passed away this morning. Howard was a highly influential biophysicist, a charismatic yet humble man, a beloved mentor to many, and a role model to all who knew him. Rest in peace, Howard.

Why does one feel sick when fighting an infection? It's not only because of pathogens, or immunity fighting pathogens, its because of the brain! Here we (i.e Jessica Osterhout PhD et al.) discovered hypothalamic neurons that orchestrate sickness symptoms urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https…

Super-excited to share our paper Nature Cell Biology. Congratulations to the entire team! We uncover a DNA-mimicry based mechanism by which the coiled-coil domain of Kif7 tethers the Hedgehog transcription factor Gli to microtubules in the primary cilia. nature.com/articles/s4155…

I am thrilled to share new work from the lab led by Harris Kaplan investigating the emergence of hypothalamic cell types involved in social behavior and homeostatic control. 1/9 Sensory Input, Sex, and Function Shape Hypothalamic Cell Type Development biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Out now in Current Biology, our new paper identifies an olfactory receptor that mediates male attraction to females, but enforces avoidance of parental care. A thread that leads to an unexpected twist in regulation of social behavior! cell.com/current-biolog…

Our new study from Catherine Dulac led by the amazing Ding Liu. We identify the neural circuit that responds to social isolation consisting two distinct neuronal populations. We also demonstrate that lack of touch leads to emergence of social need.

I’m excited to share our publication from @Dulac_lab in nature, where we illuminate the development of hypothalamic cell types involved in a broad range of functions, from social behaviors to thirst, thermoregulation, and sleep. Highlights below! 🧵 nature.com/articles/s4158…
