Over the next few days, global Red Cross and Red Crescent leaders will gather with States to discuss compliance with International Humanitarian Law, safeguarding humanitarian access and the protection of civilians and humanitarians.

The decisions made will shape our work in supporting those in search of safety, dignity and a better future. It is incumbent upon us to translate our meetings into meaningful and impactful action.

Our volunteers—over 16 million strong—make our work possible. But they cannot do it alone. They need to know that the members of this conference recognize, value, and, importantly, protect their efforts and their lives.

This gathering offers the opportunity to come together and reinforce our commitment to providing impartial, neutral and independent assistance where it is needed. It is up to us to work together to continue to bring hope and dignity to those who need it most around the world.
