Important discussion on a topic that is of high interest in trainees. I found the argument that there is no real financial incentive to shortening NICU fellowship to 2 years to be specious. The differences between a PGY6 and attending salary are not trivial.

Every six months, I find myself going through a 2-3 week stretch where I work all day, go home, hang out with my family, and then stay up late into the night continuing to work after everyone goes to bed.
