Tomorrow, Wednesday 22 January, London Universities and Colleges Athletics (LUCA) will be holding their annual run on Mitcham Common. The circuit will be on that part of the Common east of Windmill Road and between Commonside East and Croydon Road.

Friends of Mitcham Common 2024 Highlights

This 90 sec video shows the Common by the Croydon Road where a family of kestrels was observed last year. This path could also be part of a 'parkrun' that could see around 500 people running along it (twice) every Saturday morning. Should Mitcham Common be a parkrun site?

The route is 2.5kms, so the parkrun would be in 2 laps. Fast runners would overtake slower groups and might trample through plants. This photo shows part of the Common near Croydon Road, where last year a family of kestrels was observed. Is Mitcham Common suitable for parkrun?

The information panels on the One Island subsite were damaged and will be replaced in due course. (The two panels at Brookmead Road/Beddington Lane and Redhouse Road/Croydon Road)

We've been told MitchamCommonFriends has registered its objections to plans for a Park Run with Mitcham Common Conservators "The Friends are concerned about the possibility of weekly damage to the flora of Mitcham Common, and we cannot agree to it"

A tree with holes has been marked for felling. It's on the footpath south of the golf course, between Beddington Lane tram stop and the railway line.

The bin near the entrance to the Common at Commonside East/Middlesex Road/Southampton Gardens has been removed, but some think it's still there!
