The most beautiful dolphin tanks are empty ones. Was a pleasure shutting down the cruel dolphinarium at Hotel Barcelo, Riviera Maya. Never again!

What will happen now? They decided not to intervene. "Regulations state it is not allowed to feed, touch or move animals" So this little penguin will have to walk another 250 km without food, and this time, hopefully in the right direction.

If bird flu spreads to mainland Australia, it could be catastrophic—one in six Australian birds are already facing the threat of extinction, according to Birdlife Australia, let alone other vulnerable animals. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Dr Tom Montgomery Georgie #pigoneer 🐖🐽🌱 close all sea 🌎 🐬🐋🦈🐳 I’ve always thought that the rigidness of this rule (that we made up) so often goes against our own humanity. Especially when we’ve intervened as a whole in such horrific ways we’ve quite literally altered the planet itself.

Dr Tom Montgomery (@drtomontgomery) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Mark Wiliams Not sure "hovering" quite captures the extent of the horror. ~17,400 southern elephant seal pups died from H5N1 bird flu in Argentina in 2023. I was there, and I'll never forget it. Also, over 24,000 sea lions died of HPAI in South America in 2023. vetmed.ucdavis.edu/news/catastrop…

Hannah Bourne-Taylor Georgie #pigoneer 🐖🐽🌱 close all sea 🌎 🐬🐋🦈🐳 I agree, Hannah, and there are already more than 100 research stations or facilities in Antarctica where they compete with wildlife for ice-free land. We pollute and disturb there all the time.

#BirdFlu Deadly H5N1 bird flu has ravaged skuas in Antarctica. They suffered immensely with severe neurological symptoms—twisted necks, circling behavior—some literally falling from the sky. This is the first study confirming they died of H5N1 HPAIV. Details in 🧵

We should not forget that H5N1 HPAIV in South America in 2022-2023 also killed at least 667,000 wild birds of 83 species and 53,000 wild mammals of 11 species. The researchers stress that human activity played a significant role in the emergence of the virus. Antarctic wildlife

Michele Jankelow It's not known yet. Heard Island is uninhabited and incredibly remote—it takes about two weeks to reach by sea, so monitoring outcome is very expensive and challenging. Studies of other penguin species elsewhere suggest a possible high mortality rate.

I experience social media like a public square with many yelling at the same time. AI, bots, and advertisers competing with them and algorithms deciding how and when it’s delivered to me. It’s too loud. I don’t feel free to write authentically and go as deep as I’d like here.

Nature, in its inimitable way, offers comfort — plumping up cushions of primroses, scattering them beneath bare silver birch branches and along the sunken path to the fairy house. Even on a squally day, the living world knows how to soften the edges. #SolaceInNature #Wildflowers

Totally shocked, Ryan, upon reading this tweet you reposted a few hours ago, to know that “covert narcs” “actually ”like” their own tweets numerous times and pretend to be separate people with different responses. Or respond to their own tweets in support”–🤦🏼‍♀️

MissJaneM It’s not so much about the lakes but it’s that they can say something with their main account and then go and pick up one of their sock puppet accounts and comment to their main account in approval. This is a for of the “appeal to popularity“ manipulation tactic

A star looked down upon the earth and longed to gladden human hearts. Seeing a lake that mirrored the night sky, it slipped from the heavens into the dark water. By dawn it had become a radiant white water lily, its golden heart shining— a silent beacon of hope. #FolkloreThursday
