Went out of my comfort zone and finally tried Pear Deck Learning with my first graders to teach compound words! Safe to say it was a success and I will definitely be using it more often!

First Graders at Meadow Hill participated in a March Madness Tournament of Books over the past 5 weeks, reading a total of 16 different picture books. Yesterday we voted for our final match up & the results are in! The 2021 champion is... The Bad Seed! Newburgh Schools

Really enjoying having the time to build teacher-student and student-student relationships in person this year before starting curriculum instruction!

Made my day today when one of my former students from student teaching visited my classroom now that she is in 6th grade at my new school! Her words “Wow Miss Mullarkey you really did that”🤩

Whole class positive behavior charts are a hit in this classroom! Each time the whole class displays the target behavior we get to add a new piece to our snowman! ❄️

Arts integration & discovery learning to compare digraphs to mixing colors. This activity illustrates how digraphs make a completely different sound from the two letters that make them! 🎨

Today we kicked off my favorite part of first grade, our hatching unit! We learned about how eggs from the grocery store are different from fertilized eggs and placed them in the incubator. Can’t wait to meet our chicks in 21 days! 🐣

Kindness. Empathy. Compassion. Hard Work. Trying to drive these messages home with my babies in these last few months before I send them off to second! 🙏🏼💕

So excited for our writing unit that integrates the Grade 1 NGSS on plant survival and needs. These first grade scholars are going to have plenty to write about using our bean plant greenhouses in the classroom!

Today a parent of one of my students sent me information and pictures of their family celebrating the holiday of Eid al-Fitr. I’m excited to share this with the rest of my students to inform and show appreciation of different cultures within our class family ☪️
