Tomorrow 🪧 I don’t want to be on strike. But if I don’t stand up now, I may as well resign. The career I worked so hard for is now completely unsustainable. Schools are at breaking point. Teachers are at breaking point or already broken. Enough is enough. ✋

Do school leaders understand why the pay deal is being rejected? Do they know we’re doing it for wider reasons than our own pay packet? Do they know how much we could do with that unconsolidated payment and not to lose any more days’ wages? Will they stand with us next time?

Pretty disingenuous from the DfE. Is it the policy of this Government to push schools into deficit & force redundancies on an unfunded pay offer? National Education Union are doing the responsible thing by ensuring school budgets are not further eroded. Can’t think of a more reckless policy.

"If you've overworked, underpaid and overregulated your workforce to the point of exhaustion and tragedy, what do you expect me to do? I'm a trade union official. I have to call it out." Paul Whiteman, responding to DfE criticism at National Education Union conference.

If you’re not working in a school at the moment, especially in a challenging school, especially in the aftermath of Covid, especially in the context of staff shortages, especially in the context of wider service collapse… the correct attitude is respect, awe and gratitude.

The nerves are setting in, both as a teacher of Year 11s and a parent of a Y11 daughter. Her first GCSE exams are tomorrow, RE & Drama. First history paper on Thursday, taking sweet treats for my Y11s tomorrow as it is our last lesson before the exam! 🤞🙏🏼🤞🙏🏼

If teaching was just teaching it would be straightforward. But it’s not. It’s Teacher Counsellor First aider Friend Listener Planner Data analyst Showman Cleaner Supervisor Evaluator Assessor Team member Actor Team leader Carer Protector And that’s why it’s exhausting.

Teacher's Manual Why would anybody want to apply for a job where you’re routinely mistreated, you’re rarely respected and you’re consistently undervalued? Used to be an enjoyable profession but it’s now a thankless task.
