Willie Rennie She highlights the huge amount of funding the government give to cover tuition fees and probation year… which is essentially being flushed down the toilet each year when these teachers are then not employed. How is that a good use of government funding?! Why let it continue?

Universities should not be financially motivated to take on more students than needed, as this has created an impossible job market for qualified teachers amidst a background of local authority cuts.

We will be watching closely at the budget tomorrow to see what support will be given for the teacher employment crisis Scotland is currently facing - amongst a wave of other issues within education.

Shona Robison MSP has pledged £29m for an additional support needs (ASN) plan, focusing on training teachers to specialise in ASN. While it’s positive to see ASN education on the agenda, this funding is inadequate and lacks a genuine strategy to improve the system. Here’s why:

Being in this position is dreadful… we put our all into getting to know and supporting children🤍 Pupils don’t understand why you have to leave. The negative impact that lack of consistency/pupils losing someone, who has understood and supported them, can be detrimental.
