One reason (among many) that VC firms of different shapes & sizes have refocused on seed/early A in this tough capital market -- the multiples on narratives & promises is infinite while the multiples on evidence & traction is painfully finite.

Such an inspiring day at the Telstra national business awards today. So many amazing companies doing innovative things and I have so much respect for all of them. Excited to reveal the winners tomorrow. :)

Taylor’s reverie is interrupted by a phone call. It’s Roger Goodell, commissioner of the NFL and, as of five months ago, Taylor’s indentured servant. She answers on the last ring. “You don’t call me,” she says. “I call you.” mcsweeneys.net/articles/a-day…

Sad to hear of Alice Munro's passing today. I still remember Moons of Jupiter, which was the first story of hers that I read. Such a powerfully evocative writer, who proved that short stories are an equal form of literature.

If Saurabh Netravalkar, who had figures of 2-18 and bowled USA to victory in the super over vs Pakistan, wasn't disgustingly talented enough -- ( He is an engineer at Oracle and an MS in CS from Cornell University.) he's also a damn fine ukelele player. (video from his insta)

How is it possible to get so irritated with a bot? The New York Times Games wordlebot makes me angry regardless of how well or poorly I do. Today I solved in 2 guesses and it was like "oh, you just got lucky. Didn't show much skill." 🤬

"Should I trust the Dark Lord who attempted to topple the White City of Gondor? Or do I trust the Elf Queen representing the coalition of Men and Elves who defeated Sauron when he tried to enslave the Free Peoples, but could maybe do more meet-and-greets?" mcsweeneys.net/articles/im-an…
