This turned out to be a decent gauge of hiring demand (unfortunately) 4.4% May-July teen summer hiring growth is weakest on record

The massive downward revisions (-258k) are puzzling. Even as someone who long believes payrolls are overstated by massive amount, these downward revisions are anormay large outside of benchmark month or weather related events. The downward revision are largest for state and

1) Erika is a career civil servant. No one is more dedicated to the integrity of the numbers than Erika. 2) If you want to get people not to believe in the numbers BLS is putting out, firing the respected head of BLS is an interesting choice

Besides the obvious reasons why firing Erika McEntarfer is screwed up, she's a terrific researcher and has contributed much to our knowledge of the fine details about how different groups experience the business cycle and labor market

I would be very interested to hear from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Stephen Miran and others their specific concerns about the quality of data coming from BLS and how the administration plans to safeguard the quality of our gold star statistical infrastructure moving forward

The totally groundless firing of Dr. Erika McEntarfer, my successor as Commissioner of Labor Statistics at BLS, sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the statistical mission of the Bureau. For a full statement opposing this move, read: friendsofbls.org/updates/2025/8…

Just for the record, Wiatrowski is a longtime BLS employee, a dedicated public servant, someone who has been acting commissioner before, and someone I would have total confidence in during a normal transfer of power. The scary part is who they replace *him* with.

Bill is the king of understatement. There have been countless BLS revisions, and many BLS Commissioners, but only ONE sitting President has fired a BLS head. You do the math.

Love a good Disruption take that fundamentally misunderstand Disruption. Knowing how to make something worse and much cheaper is a terrible qualification for making things better

Michael Madowitz (@mikemadowitz) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Both sides have a point, so we should have a real debate over the wisdom of firing the BLS commissioner Is this obviously self defeating to a 3rd grader? Or, by contrast, is it only obviously self defeating to a 7th grader?

There’s a difference between Fed independence and Fed omnipotence. After the Trump's attempt at BLS interference it's not clear financial elites (or judicial ones) get it. -me msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-…

A lot of principled conservatives and libertarians on the feed speaking up against this nomination for BLS Commissioner Truly grateful to all of you. I would advise you to speak with key Republican members of the Senate HELP committee, many of whom I think are persuadable here

Seconding this! And I’ve worked w/ many BLS nerds w/advisory experience and knowledge I’d call very-to-bonkers Right Wing. plenty of options A yes vote on this nominee will permanently discredit electeds on Econ policy
