1) Erika is a career civil servant. No one is more dedicated to the integrity of the numbers than Erika. 2) If you want to get people not to believe in the numbers BLS is putting out, firing the respected head of BLS is an interesting choice

Besides the obvious reasons why firing Erika McEntarfer is screwed up, she's a terrific researcher and has contributed much to our knowledge of the fine details about how different groups experience the business cycle and labor market

Just for the record, Wiatrowski is a longtime BLS employee, a dedicated public servant, someone who has been acting commissioner before, and someone I would have total confidence in during a normal transfer of power. The scary part is who they replace *him* with.

Bill is the king of understatement. There have been countless BLS revisions, and many BLS Commissioners, but only ONE sitting President has fired a BLS head. You do the math.
