Mike Foster I was seriously considering an Octopus install last year but prices suddenly rose by £2k, just after the grant increased. A HP will suit my home but I’m im the almost able to pay (and probably not in the majority) but when prices rise, I change to unable to pay.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme, worth £1.9 billion, might come under close scrutiny if the Treasury are looking for savings. Above average income households getting a subsidy when cuts are taking place elsewhere, is a tricky one to justify.

Time someone asked the really important question. Why are Octopus pushing this so hard? And please don’t say “consumer interest” because that’s nonsense. Dig a little deeper. Follow the money. And be honest, if it’s for commercial reasons at least say so. thetimes.com/business-money…

If only we could use a low or zero carbon molecule to flow down the pipes to the fish fryer. Now if someone could invent that, we might have a solution on our hands. #SaveTheChippie telegraph.co.uk/politics/2025/…

But Octopus said it would save money. I mean, they wouldn’t possibly exaggerate the numbers to suit their argument. They have no track record of doing so - except of course their claim that heat pumps would be the same cost as a gas boiler. theguardian.com/business/2025/…

I’m old enough to remember when a “pre-election period” meant a ban from making such statements. Have Ofgem overstepped the mark? theguardian.com/money/2025/apr…

This is an important intervention. It deserves to be heard and acted upon. Following a Third Way isn’t always popular but it’s often right.

So I reckon that’s a fall of just over 9% for gas and just under 5% for electricity. Haven’t heard that stat quoted yet.

For Q2, under the price cap a heat pump was 8% more expensive to run than a gas boiler. For Q3 it will be 13% more expensive. Another stat that is kept under the radar.

Dare one make a comparison with water companies? Asking for a friend who keeps hearing about the push to full electrification. telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2025/0…
