Don’t know what it is with us - our build up play and management of games is actually not been bad at all this season however we allow ourselves to think about being creative or adventurous in the final 3rd (& shootout) and we have no belief in ourselves what so ever #avfc

When on the rare occasions we moved the ball quickly we looked much better but for some crazy reason we pop the ball into midfield correctly after slow build up & then go back or take a million touches & space evaporates around us. Seems so easy to fix….#avfc

Ironically European football will suit us due to how passive and slow we are - a big number of continental teams play that way - but we cannot do that in England, the game is just different & we get found out very very easily. Last season was the same between the two comps #avfc

Yes keeping players is key but I really do start to wonder if given our FFP constraints this summer if we should have cashed in on big sales & freshened everything up for the better long term. All looks very stale #avfc

We have gone from looking like we will score everytime we come forward to looking like we have never played football before when we approach the final 3rd….. it’s absolutely crazy #avfc

My take is that the club banked on something in the summer that didn’t happen (UCL) & now we are desperately trying to pick up from last year in a situation we never wanted to be in…. Everyone seems so down & the body language just looks completely uninterested #avfc

Cannot believe some parts of the fanbase are calling for Emery to go - absolutely ridiculous. In 3+ years we have had stupidly fast rise and not many lows. Logically we were going to level & slow down with stale displays. I don’t understand who else would do better?!!! 🤯 #avfc

Mike Land (@mike_land10) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Have to say that’s a very good display and result from Barcelona - very mature and professional for a young side in truth. Rashford brilliant but Pedri…..what a footballer #ChampionsLeaugue

Mike Land (@mike_land10) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Clear as day why we are struggling going forward - lack of width. Last year with Rashford etc we got it wide & that allowed space for Rogers etc in the middle. We are great at the possession side of things but play far too narrow to ever threaten back fours who defend well #avfc

Mike Land (@mike_land10) 's Twitter Profile Photo

There is a reason why Rogers was moved wide when Asensio was here - Rogers just isn’t a 10 that can play those little eye of needle passes, too many times he wants to travel & is not aware of runners around him. For me Elliot would be better suited there #avfc

Mike Land (@mike_land10) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Sancho offered more in 10 than Rogers in 80. Better display but still a lack of movement off the ball. Watkins needs addressing…. No movement, stupid fouls & missing that one big chance right at the end… absolutely shocking from an international CF #avfc

We need to play with Maatsen at fullback, with a front line of attackers behind the striker of Sancho, Elliot & Guessand/Malen - make Rogers work to get back in and use width like we did when Sancho came on - the only time we stretched them in any kind of way #avfc

Interesting thing noticed 2nd half Elliot had the ball & travelled, Cash makes great run to overlap then just stops next to Elliot. He then checks for the movement in the box….nothing so just goes backwards. Staying playing in front of Sunderland the WHOLE phase of play #avfc

Newcastle (for example) having 3 0-0s, only one win etc not too dissimilar to us in terms of a bad start but watching both there is a big difference in terms of body language & urgency to rectify things. That’s why Villa fans are prob more concerned than Newcastle I’d say #avfc

Mike Land (@mike_land10) 's Twitter Profile Photo

When people say we are in trouble - over a season I don’t think we go down or anywhere close BUT that said I think it absolutely writes off European football again & any kind of strong top half finish. For what the club is trying to build that is trouble make no mistake #avfc

Mike Land (@mike_land10) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If we hadn’t achieved what we had the last 3 years I don’t think this bad spell is so focused on. We over achieved with all the constraints etc the side needs a freshen up, simple as that. You cannot keep playing 7-8 Dean Smith era players & keep getting better. #avfc

Mike Land (@mike_land10) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We have always played slow build up football but when the line breaking pass is played we quicken & spring into life. 70% of our performance tactics haven’t changed it’s that fluid quick football when we get into areas of the field which has gone first 5 games…. #avfc

Mike Land (@mike_land10) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Best solution is to sell big players next summer, stop buying to fill short term aims. yes the club want fast growth etc but sometimes taking a step back to go forwards with younger, fresher players will stand us in good stead longer term. Club set up doesn’t need to change #avfc

One big issue Villa have atm is Torres/Mings - one makes us tick going forward with line breaking passes the other makes us more solid defensively… aside from playing 3 at the back I’m not sure what is best for us. That said Pau played 90% of games in our top 4 season #avfc
