“All people are born as originals but many die as photocopies” Carlo Acutis. Celebrate difference, be individual, break moulds, cause waves, create change.

Do you ever think that neuronormatives punish Autistics because they fear our oddness bringing out the oddities within them that they try so hard to hide?

You Might Be Autistic It is not "fair" that we say the implicit quiet things out loud but they know the signals of when not to do it, so it's our fault for not knowing and not falling in line. There are NT people who say the quiet things out loud too, they're just a lot more comfortable being direct.

"An autistic person would never be this self-aware." Is a wild assumption. How tf could someone who is constantly stopped and told "no" when they do literally anything, not be aware?

Hi!!! I’ve never really introduced myself. I’m Ivy. I opened this account two years ago because so many people don’t know what autism really is. 🌿 I’m autigender non-binary and use They/She. You can also call me Mama Ivy 💗 I consider myself a radically Autistic elder even

You Might Be Autistic "You can’t be autistic because you don’t live in the gutter" and "You can’t be autistic because you have good hygiene" are some of the worst ones I’ve heard, but the marriage one and the ability to hold a job come close after that. Definitely all unhinged statements.

A thread of where neurodivergent people were hiding before we "had all this autism and adhd that we never had in my day." 🧵 Feel free to add your own. Academic - oh you know what they're like, no common sense, experts in their subject but can't boil an egg 1/4

“Autistics lack empathy” yet I often whittle my encyclopedic knowledge of a subject down to a few digestible sentences for the comfort of strangers. Maybe it’s related to the “show your work” concept. My not performing empathy in a way you can see doesn’t mean it’s not there.

Like most marginalized groups, #Autistic advocates are accused of being too “angry” when we talk about the changes we want to see. Look up Autistic life expectancy. Our anger may feel uncomfortable, but it’s needed for change to happen.

I bring up #Autistic life expectancy not to bring people down, but to raise awareness of our needs for real accommodation and support.

Don’t tell the corporations, but if you want to engage #Autisticpeople, make it a seek and find around something we’re interested in. Excuse me while I look through this bin of old vinyl.

As an Autistic clinician, I’ll also say that Autistic people often don’t conform to clinically predicatable timelines. If you feel burned out and it’s only been a few weeks trust yourself. You get to say “I’m experiencing Autistic burn out” when you feel it.
