Drought has expanded across parts of Ohio, and into eastern Indiana as well.

For the first time in the USDM’s 25-year history, Ohio and West Virginia have experienced exceptional drought. Both states have had drought-related impacts this summer, including widespread crop loss in West Virginia and some producers selling their livestock in Ohio. (1/2)

A reminder-- especially to those in the Midwestern agricultural community--- that conditions are dry and getting drier, thus ripe for rapid drought development. Western Ohio, much of Indiana, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky are at risk.

DROUGHT WORSENS: The latest version of the US Drought Monitor was released this morning. Severe Drought (D2) and Moderate Drought (D1) have expanded across the area. There are a few chances for rain in the coming days, but it will likely not be enough to improve the drought.
