Will someone please community note this godforsaken April Fools joke? I'm so tired of air power experts planesplaining to me that mixed fleets are a sustainment nightmare without questioning the claim that we'd license build 5 distinct planes at an abandoned minivan factory.

Meeting NATO's 2% GDP target by increasing the CAF budget + buying badly needed capabilities is such a pedestrian and 'inside the box' solution. Have we considered other options? For example, think how funny it would be to have two separate but overlapping CAFs funded at 1%.

I would absolutely love to be completely wrong here, but I remain curious to see what Ukraine can do with 40k rocket motors alone. Unfortunately I still believe this was a misunderstanding of rocket motor vs full weapon system by well meaning folks that got political momentum.

The Canadian Army is not training for this war - but not because our battalion & brigade commanders don't want to. We're still constrained by ridiculous red tape that says the cheapest drones we're allowed to buy cost >$25k - even if we just want to use them for target practice.

Old RCAF Officer mess. I know it's just a building & moving NDHQ from downtown Ottawa to the West end killed mess culture, but it's still emblematic of the ongoing transition of the Canadian Military from an institution you really belonged to, to just another public service job.

There is a profound difference between those nations who understand that their sovereignty is in peril and will do whatever it takes to defend them, and those who think their sovereignty can be defended by a few clever speeches until it all just blows over. Actions, not words.

Fun Fact: these poor suffering airframes have flown through 12 federal elections already, and are almost certainly going to make it to 14. At least.

Me, a serving Army officer, trying to avoid commenting on politics after both major Federal parties release their defence platforms.

I guarantee a lobbyist is trying to schedule a call with the MND to pitch M10 Booker sales to the Canadian Army. They've already tried once before. We don't want or need it, but history shows we do love to be the sole global user of hyper-niche & unsupportable micro fleets.

The Carl Gustav M4 weighs 14.6 lbs (6.6kg). It can also be fitted with a 7.62x51mm adapter. Instead of the XM7, the next battle rifle should be the Carl Gustav.

I'd like to congratulate the Canadian Army's fully funded $700M anti-tank guided missile project from 2017 for making it to it's 4th Minister of National Defence without having spent a single cent yet. Truly a fascinating accomplishment.

French Army: building mobile 3D printing labs to produce 10 drones every 3 hours. Canadian Army: Buying $25,000 drones off a standing offer that takes 3-6 months to deliver. If the challenge is to evolve or die, then we have clearly made our choice.

The Canadian Armed Forces & 🇨🇦 defence industry are woefully unprepared for modern warfare, but we could be investing in some easy wins to modernize. Example: we could immediately contract GD-OTS in Quebec to produce safe munitions for FPV drones based on their 84mm products.

🇨🇦 has finally fired its first live GBAD round. A big day for bird gunners from 4 Reg (GS) who have worked hard to get here. Still - this was an 'Urgent Operational Procurement' approved & funded by Federal Cabinet in Winter 22. >3 years to field a UOR. We have to do better.
