A surprise this morning whilst going for breakfast was coming across this hawk moth caterpillar walking on the reception floor. Safely relocated to an adjacent plant to hopefully pupate!! Costa Rica 🇨🇷 #mothsmatter #teammoth

Not so fortunate was this deceased vine hawk moth (I think!) found near (ish) the caterpillar. Put aside where the ants might make good use of it... Costa Rica 🇨🇷 #mothsmatter #teammoth

Not my moth trap moth, but a restaurant moth, is this anchemola sphinx, Eumorpha anchemolus, that was causing quite a stir this morning. Think Convolvulous sized, and you're in the ball park. Safely moved on away from feet!! Costa Rica 🇨🇷

No moths last night, but made up for with this giant red winged grasshopper, which was ENORMOUS!! I'm guessing around 6 inches long, the rest of the family wasn't impressed 😆 At least the ice bucket got used!! Costa Rica 🇨🇷

Found 4 of these tiny eyelash pit viper today on our jungle walk. (Well, the guide did!). Highly venomous, but the size of a large earthworm, you'd have a 2 hour window to find the anti venom... gorgeous though, ain't it!! Costa Rica 🇨🇷 #Costarica

Another magnificent moth trap intruder from a few nights ago, this longhorn beetle, the fig tree borer. Another whoppe, but just about fitted my largest moth pot. Costa Rica 🇨🇷 #costarica

Pretty sure this might be(!) Pelidnota strigosa after a bit of research, a precious metal scarab beetle found near the kitchens of the hotel whilst watching howler monkey and baby. I'm going to miss this place!! Costa Rica 🇨🇷 #costarica

A fly from today, as a filler for the question, is anyone else finding twitter very buggy lately? It can, at times, take hours, literally, to load up new posts or comments.

A few highlights from the last full day in Costa Rica, a juvenile common black hawk, my first ever osprey(what a beast!) and a group of 15 brown pelican. 2 weeks has been too short here! #costaricabirds #costarica

I forgot this from yesterday, not my find, but pointed out by one of the nice beach hawkers. A Pacific screech owl, which returns to this exact tree and branch every year! Costa Rica 🇨🇷 #costaricabirds #costarica

I finally caught up with the moth I've most wanted to catch - Levant Blackneck (T. exsiccata). It may not be a looker but the fact that it mostly flies in winter and travelled all the way from North Africa, has always fascinated me. St Mellion, Cornwall on 29/11.

1st moth trap of the year, and 7 of 6 flavours, including the not annual Dotted border. Not bad, and not a wogan! Actually, my 1st moth trap since Costa Rica 🤯 S Monmouthshire #mothsmatter #teammoth

Not been on here for a while, lots happening, not run many moth traps at all this year (under 10?). Normandy trip in June was depressing with the numbers and diversity in a country that should be similar to ours. My 2nd ever goat moth was one of my favourites. #mothsmatter

Another Normandy highlight was my 1st ever Lappet moth. Unfortunately, it was not in the best condition, and it was close to the end of its life. Surprised me how big it was in the hand! #mothsmatter
