The Secret Origins Special showed me that weirdos get let into the clubhouse. Discovering indies later on, I realized it's much cooler to build your own clubhouse. Ultimately, playing well with others ain't so bad either. BEM embodied these dynamics, important lessons all. RIP

After a letter appeared in Amazing Spider-man #5 criticising the way Steve Ditko drew feet, he drew himself into a panel in #22 - concealed by a column, of course.

Here's a portion of Bernie Mireault's Captain America fan comic from 1982 (posted on FB). The outsider impulse to play in the Marvel sandbox reminds me of Dan Clowes thinking he would be inking Iron Man one day. Or Chester Brown repurposing rejected samples for Yummy Fur 1.

Ten years in the making (and torn from the pages of L&R), Jaime Hernandez's newest graphic novel skillfully weaves two generations of his beloved characters into a satisfying story of love—both young and middle-aged. Life Drawing is out 2/25/25! ow.ly/GMxt50T2yZr

Thanks to all who weighed in the other day on my peer review post. Mostly working in isolation, we can all benefit from a fresh pair of eyes once in a while. Not unrelated, here's a snippet of my recent process book, Creating COPRA, regarding a topic always on my mind. ON EDITING

When you draw something as a gift for a friend but it’s used by an editor and oops it becomes one of the greatest Batman covers. That’s what Simonson does.
