“See those rocks? Been standing there for 600 million years. Still be there when you and I are gone. So arguing over who owns them is like two fleas arguing over who owns the dog they live on.” The wisdom of Mick Dundee, happy Friday 😊

Why Research Matters 2024 author Michelle Boucher’s piece is about the surprising and increasing choice for colostomy following SCI. Her research asks why. Do patients prefer options that better fit their lifestyle? Do they want choice in bowel management? bit.ly/wrm-2024

Some five-word horror stories for Friday the 13th: Running out of tea bags Someone talking in a lift Unexpected knock on the door Biscuit falling into your brew Stuck on rail replacement bus Waving at the wrong person Forgetting to take an umbrella Missing bin day before

3 days to Christmas in my mini advent calendar! A different view of Mam Tor, looking up from the Vale of Edale, snow dusting every rocky ridge. I love the swooping curves of fences, and thank you to the person who stood at the summit as I took the shot, giving a sense of scale.

I hear and see time and time again how transformative a colostomy is after SCI: the dignity, control, independence and freedom it brings. I’m sorry you had to battle and go privately to have this. Many patients in Salisbury Spinal Centre choosing this straight away.

No one cares what zone you are running in. Are you enjoying it? Are you healthy? Are you getting the results you want? If yes, you're doing it right for you.

“The most enduring marker of success isn't wealth, fame, or power. It’s what we create and contribute to others. In the short run, status symbols capture attention. In the long run, achievement is judged by impact. The highest accomplishment is improving the lives of others.”
