This debacle really just reveals an elite attitude that treats ordinary people and their interests with contempt: Irish music is looked down upon, Irish sports are looked down upon, pride in your nation is looked down upon...who vets this kinda of bigoted rubbish?

Brendan Courtney is such a good fit for that morning slot on RTÉ. Lovely enjoyable radio, a pleasure to listen to. First time I've tuned to that programme for months. Hard to understand why he didn't get the gig.

Very little reporting or commentary in the Irish media on the booing of the national anthem of England at the soccer game in Dublin...If the Irish national anthem was booed in London, we'd be calling for a meeting of the UN Security Council.

In the Gospel today, Jesus heals the deaf man and tells him: Ephphatha - be opened. God is at work in our lives, are we open to seeing his grace? Healing is not the product of any magician, spell, or process…healing comes from the power of God.

I was due to go to Burkina Faso this week to support the local Catholic community, unfortunately due to the deteriorating security situation and Al Qaeda insurgency it has been deemed too unsafe to travel. Please continue to pray for all the victims. acnireland.org/journal/2024/9…

Thousands are on the streets here in Dili hoping to get a glimpse of Pope Francis as he arrives in the most Catholic country in the world (outside of the Vatican).

As a genre, political memoirs are usually disappointing and reveal little…I hope Leo will actually be candid in this. Why, for example, did he set aside so lightly what he once said were cherished values and principles? Why did he govern as a Soc Dem? independent.ie/irish-news/pol…

Tomorrow is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay - oddly, many politicians who support assisted suicide will post tweets saying that suicide is not the answer to problems.

Sad news - he converted to Catholicism as a young man, and often said that his greatest honour in life was narrating the Bible. variety.com/2024/film/news…

More than a million PAYE workers In Ireland pay the punitive 40% tax rate, and are still subject to the unfair ‘temporary’ USC. This should not be squandered on more bloated public spending, but used to cut income taxes. rte.ie/news/business/…

Almost a year gone, dear brother…I never forget you’ve gone, but it’s so strange: often it seems to dawn on me anew. Grief is a long valley.
