There's more information to be added but you can see how the #MontgomeryCanal connects to the national waterway system: at the moment boats only to Gronwen, but soon on to Crickheath. And we are working to connect into mid-Wales too. RestoreTheMontgomeryCanal.UK

Thanks Emma Wilde Hale. We're delighted with the positive responses to our ambition to bring boats back to mid-Wales. Great plans for the future. More about the #MontgomeryCanal on RestoreTheMontgomeryCanal.uk.

I wonder if that would happen if there was a new canal #MontgomeryCanal terminus in #Newtown? That's the ambition: help us to bring boats back to Mid-Wales - RestoreTheMontgomeryCanal.uk .

The #MontgomeryCanal was abandoned in 1944 too but fortunately there was little destruction of locks (only towards #Newtown). Lots of damage to bridges though, right up to 1980, but we have been putting that right: next is to rebuild Schoolhouse Bridge - RestoreTheMontgomeryCanal.uk

#MontgomeryCanal restoration benefits boating visitors to the pub and tearoom at Maesbury, walkers on the borderland canal route from #Llangollen to #Newtown, amazing canalside reserves for flora and fauna ... I cannot get it all in 280 characters so try theMontgomeryCanal.org.uk

When we met highway officials they thought it was a great idea to reinstate the canal crossings at Arddleen and Maerdy so towpath users could avoid crossing the busy main road. #MontgomeryCanal

Great news for Mid-Wales. The #MontgomeryCanal offers recreation and well-being, a boost to the visitor economy and conservation of a unique natural and built heritage along a 25 mile corridor. What could be better? TheMontgomeryCanal.org.uk

Next stop on our virtual waterways tour is the Bridgwater & Taunton Canal which reopened in 1994 after a long campaign by IWA.
