It is February and we are reaching the Chief Resident Solstice…the time of year that surgical chief residents approach the absolute minimum number of f**** given. Time moves slower near the Chief Resident Solstice than at any other time in one’s life. (it does end, eventually)

Your Match Day reminder that square knots look the same at hospitals of every ranking, and matching *somewhere* is what matters. The grass is not always greener at your ‘top’ programs, and in the end, both your potential and the basic principles of surgery are still the same.

Pro tip: There is a phenomenon on rounds when the attending doesn’t know what to do about the main problem and instead fixates on the peripheral aspects of the case (DVT prophylaxis, etc). Learn to recognize this and redirect to the main issue before you move on 🧐.
