Very glad to see our paper 'Maternal Dengue and the Health of Children' with Lívia Menezes in this issue of the AEJ: Applied. Using matched admin data from Brazil, we find that maternal dengue infections reduce birth weight substantially, increase the chance for low Bweight (1/n)

and increase the chance for hospitalisation substantially. Inclusion in this issue is very timely with Brazil suffering from unprecedented levels of dengue infections this year with 17 cities having declared a state of emergency. The spike in Brazil is matched by record (2/n)

With a new effective dengue vaccine being available and additional vaccines on the horizon, more needs to be done to protect women before pregnancy and their children from the severe consequences of infection, for example by including them as priority group for vaccinations.(4/n)

Great example of complementary research on the same topic, showcasing that both direct and indirect effects need to be taken into account when estimating the consequences of disease, in this case the effect of dengue on schooling. Thanks for sharing.
