"Saving the stems" to provide nesting space for cavity-nesting insects begins in the fall. All you have to do this season is leave dead plant stalks alone and intact through the winter. Then you can start the process in the spring with barely any work at all:

🌱Volunteers needed for Woodwild Park Association's fall park clean-up tomorrow, 10/15, from 9-noon. Volunteers can meet at the East Chestnut entrance to collect trash (including broken glass, so bring gloves!) and to help remove invasive species. 🌱

You see a backyard weed, but bees and other pollinators see food, especially valuable this late in the season. Resist the urge for a perfect lawn! Let some backyard space grow wild to help provide habitat and to sustain local wildlife 🌱🐝
