Critical voices are under attack. The backlash against human rights is growing. Legitimate protests are curbed, repression is rising, and public space is shrinking. Human rights defenders stand up for what is right, often at great personal risk. We must protect them.

The business & human rights movement has a vital aim: to ensure profits don't come at the expense of people or planet. Today, I called again for a legally-binding instrument on business & human rights-to prevent new human rights abuses, new disasters & new ecological devastation.

We all have a role to play in stopping the spread of harmful misinformation online, which can result in people being left uninformed, unprotected & vulnerable. Before you share content online, pause to verify facts by doing further research & asking basic questions.

Today addressing the UN Human Rights Council, I sounded the alarm on the urgent need to protect the international order - an order that has brought stability and progress. We must build peace from the ground up, commit to the rule of law, and unite around human rights. We can and will persevere.
