My prayer tonight is for the poets to continue to write their poems. And for the artists to continue to paint their canvases. And for the preachers to continue to craft their sermons. Protest where you are, with your God-given skills and talents. #RacialJustice

Some can march and rally. But we also need folks writing op-ed letters. And sewing masks. And paying for bail. And caring for children of essential workers. And reading books to counter the miseducation you received about race in this country. #RacialJustice

I am convinced that one of the reasons my great-grandmother #IdaBWells was able to write and publish her powerful editorials and pamphlets is because she OWNED the news outlet. No gatekeepers censoring her voice.

White TA used me as an example of group scapegoating w/o my consent in class. I sobbed as she continued until another student called her out. TA (no apology) then later emailed me asking to teach her about her white privilege b/c she wanted to educate herself #BlackintheIvory

Yes! Evie! I couldn’t agree more about Ama Codjoe’s poems! Let say it will be 5 years they roll up with the “new” knowledge about her incisive writing!

Glad Princeton University removed Woodrow Wilson’s name. Imani Perry AAIHS Thanks to the work of many. My sister Kwanza Jones says, “no one succeeds alone-sometimes you need a boost.” No doubt her Love Letter to Princeton + her $$$ gift gave a much needed boost sprchrg.me/2A1D0Ne

Should you, my lord, while you peruse my song, Wonder from whence my love of Freedom sprung, Whence flow these wishes for the common good, By feeling hearts alone best understood, I, young in life, by seeming cruel fate Was snatch'd from Afric's fancy'd happy seat: 2/

What pangs excruciating must molest, What sorrows labour in my parent’s breast? Steel’d was that soul and by no misery mov’d That from a father seiz’d his babe belov’d: Such, such my case. And can I then but pray Others may never feel tyrannic sway? —Phillis Wheatley

“Black grief is not transient; it is generational, incarnate in our bodies.” And I’m done with letting the world treat it as a threat—while blessing white rage. Our grief is holy and resilient; it prepares a way for justice and joy. My words for RNS👇🏾 religionnews.com/2021/01/08/how…

Penn Museum The mother was never notified that Penn Museum possessed her children’s remains. This mother suffered when state sanctioned murder took her children’s lives. Now, she suffers because the state sanctioned the defiling and exhibition of their remains. This is criminal.
