Radio friends , Today a successful upgrade of my old TS-480SAT txr. Firmware V1.06 to latest and final V1.07 using legacy HP 6550b probook laptop and straight wired db9f to db9f serial cable. The laptop had a 9 pin male serial port so no problems or errors experienced.👍

When you are faced with ts-480 firmware non communication a radio amateur has to do what a radio amateur has to do ! Null modem cable wrong so we have to adapt. Perfectionists look away now.

Radio friends, Can anyone help skyking comms with his issue ? Anyone familiar with RX-888 MK2 perhaps.

So many radios today with "smart ass" 😕 DSP filtering. Kenwood were doing " really smart ass" 🦉DSP filtering 20 years ago and TS series TXRs are renowned for superb ergonomics. No digging into menus to find what you want. Cut the noise ? 2 buttons, no nonsense.

A rather sad Yaesu FC-700 tuner. A wafer has broken in the band change switch due to heavy handling by its previous owner. Also the knob has cracks and the brass collet has smashed off it. Not an easy fix but worth a go for this beautifully made tuner from 1980s. Ouzes quality.

Not much luck with the FC-700 tuner Im afraid. The switch wafer damage was much worse than I expected. I wonder if I can use a donor wafer from a 12 way rotary switch from Aliexpress or suchlike ? On the plus side, a day out for my Portasol 125 which was xmas gift from XYL.

I have a "Booster Pac" made by century mfg Clore Automotive 🇺🇸 it must hold some kind of record for longevity, 20 yrs old at least and it has saved the day on hundreds of occasions for work colleagues, neighbours and friends. Needs holsters . Please help Clore Automotive Thanks.

A dual inductor which was wound on a plastic former then placed on a ferrite rod. The rod broke in half when the device was dropped which also broke the fine wires of coil. Attempt a repair but the fantastic Jez @ Peak Electronic Design Ltd 💙🇪🇺 LCR45 allows us to see both inductances. Great tool.

The rechageable torches by vision-lights.co.uk are very good indeed for cheap, popular in 🚗 service. After 3 years of abuse the mico usb socket failed so a repair was inevitable. Sockets are 2 pin +ve and gnd which came from vi.aliexpress.com/item/100500813… I am calling that a win.

Seen from my 🇬🇧 garden this evening around 8:15pm local the SpaceX Falcon 9 second stage (NROL-69) passing overhead East to West. According to those in the know...(I am not btw) the spiral effects are "Caused by illuminated frozen fuel expelled from the rocket second stage".

Got the copper wound on the 3D printed frames. Next up is to drill the pizza pans and bolt the SMA connector and the frames to the reflector and solder the driven element tube to the connector. Tune with #VNA. That's about it. #satcom #acars #avgeek #aircraft #antenna #SDR #lband

I found this old relic in my shed, My Fluke 25 from the 1990s. Massive.. In its day one of the best meters available. Made to exacting standards by Fluke/Philips 🇳🇱 and supplied to Military and petrochem companies worldwide. Still working fine, 1000v ⚡️rating and they meant it 👍

The polyvaricon tuning capacitor CBM-443BF is the radio enthusiasts friend. Super inexpensive (5pcs for $7usd typical) and very versatile due to the multitude of capacitance /"pin out" options. Heres a drawing , long nights of HF listening lie ahead, get your thinking cap on .😀
