Research from nearly 200k A&E visits showed parental concern was a better predictor of serious illness than any vital signs like blood pressure, heart rate etc. New study in The Lancet is further vindication of the value of Martha's Rule 👇 thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/…

After 3.5 years the scaffold is down at Staick House! We can now crack on & replace the rotten lean to, install the new windows, repair the last bits of framing, remove the tarmac…. and then tackle the inside.

A big developer doing really good things. There will be social/affordable homes + community £ + other betterment too on a project of this size. I’m not a big fan of the big four but it feels only fair to share good work. Small 🏠developers also do this kind of thing & more

And why I hear you cry are some of the environment charities going along with the charade that is the water commission? Simple Nature Based Solutions. Yet again they're blinded by the shinny bauble of money keeping them focused on generating income rather than actually fixing

After months of zero P readings it was a surprise to see this. Possibly due to rain the night before? Low flow though. Hard to see how it will be possible to ever achieve EA target of 0.015 average in the Arrow/Lugg/Frome - is it a unicorn target?

We’ve been a self/custom build specialist for 45 years, Dad pretty much invented the concept of custom build & yet we’ve just been told we don’t meet the custom build definition. We even submitted our app as 5 separate plots to show it’s not speculative. Rico Woj 🤷🏻‍♀️

Recent research into the carbon storage of hedges has delivered some exciting findings Incredibly, the below ground carbon storage appears much larger than previously anticipated, &means hedgerows can actually store MORE CARBON per hectare than FOREST! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/gc…

Perhaps 1 reason Planning Bill is struggling is that NRF was initially designed to replace nutrient neutrality. NN/NRF are flawed in many ways, but also very difficult to understand unless you know. NN & nature recovery are not the same. Saying it’s a ‘win win’ annoys people.

We put PV on our new build roofs AND make our homes using PV power from our workshops roofs (when the sun is shining…) but PV is not the silver bullet for many, many reasons. The endless over simplification of national issues & constant vilification of new homes is exhausting.

Something quite forlorn about the perfect white swan against the slimy brown water. This river didn’t look like this when I was a child. This happened in my lifetime.

On these 18 acres we have new & old hedges (managed in several different ways), scrub, (potential) meadow, 20+ mature oak trees & traditional pasture. We are hoping to add in field/hedge trees, wet areas, dynamic riparian buffers & possibly an orchard & biochar test site 🤞🏻

Don’t take on a derelict medieval manor house just because your dad was desperately in love with it. It will bankrupt, frustrate & depress you. But it might also bring you joy & learning - and keep you entertained while your heart is breaking. Slowly getting there.

Good to see HAs will now have ample £ to buy the AH 🏠already delivered by developers but sitting empty because RPs didn’t take them. Hopefully new AH can be commissioned too. A review of HAs + their funds/purpose would be useful, including rural areas. theguardian.com/politics/2025/…
