I cannot describe how bad this is for tech companies. Not the $100K fee on *new* H1Bs, but that their software engineers currently abroad can be turned back (or detained?) at the border with ZERO notice! It brings uncertainty to running a business in the US. Plus (cont’d)

Those on an H1B cannot return to the US from tomorrow (Sunday) unless paying $100K. This is an out-of-the blue presidential action. We’ll see software engineers stranded abroad. One easy to predict outcome: those on US visas will travel less… for work, for conferences etc.

How is the world's largest storage system, AWS S3 built? I found the best person to talk about this: Mai-Lan Tomsen Bukovec, who has been heading up S3 for 13 years (!) S3's scale is something else (tens of millions of hard drives, eleven 9s of durability (!!) and heavy usage of

What does 20 years of internet-scale storage look like? Hundreds of exabytes. Millions of customers. The foundation of new industries. From a breakthrough idea on Pi Day in 2006 to the backbone of modern applications, Amazon S3 has evolved with every generation of builders.
