A number of nitrate spikes in Iowa’s rivers after recent rains. Municipalities have to pay a lot of money to clean their drinking water to get to the 10 mg/L federal threshold (a threshold that’s too high, as regular consumption of water at 3-5 mg/L of nitrate can cause cancer).
