Why is long term psychotherapy/counselling so hard to access on he NHS? if you had a chronic, complex physical condition, you wouldn't be given 6 or 20 weeks of treatment then told 'that's your lot'. Long term therapies are essential for some people to reach full functioning.

Spent a fascinating day UKCP conference about how psychotherapists can respond to the climate crisis. Great speakers and so much to think about. Thank you #HopeandResilience #ecoanxiety

👇🏿 This needs to be watched by every person of voting age. (And younger so they are pre-warned.) Beware of those with no moral compass. They don't lead you any place I'd care to go.

Reflecting on my day: patients are benefiting most from having someone to talk to about their worries and concerns, who just listens and offers alternatives to think about. We must never underestimate how much an hour of chatting impacts on wellbeing. #socialprescribing #goodtalk

Social media is being used to shame people into social distancing. The motivation does not come from an altruistic will to keep society safe, but as a form of defensive projection. I spoke to ⁦Amelia⁩ for ⁦The Guardian⁩. theguardian.com/science/2020/a…

We’ve spent generations training people how to seek pleasure to avoid pain. This has resulted in a pathological aversion to the capacity to tolerate discomfort - to the degree thar many prefer to rest assured in mistruth rather than accept a discomfiting reality.

People Are Discussing Their Therapy On Social Media. Share Or Overshare? I spoke to Habibakatsha at HuffPost Life about what therapists and their clients might consider. I'm sure Erin Stevens same handle elsewhere would have much to add! buff.ly/33IJo6I

If we reframe “mental health” as “everyday quality of life for everybody” - we probably wouldn’t require annual reminders of how important it is. Let’s not stop promoting awareness - but let’s remember that mental health is all of us, every single day.

Listening is simple, & difficult. Ordinary, & extraordinary. A way of doing, & being. We need more, & better listening. How do we describe something that is so experiential & beautiful? A bit like art, or love. How do we honour listening, & not reduce it to a list of ‘top tips’?
