Not a bad bit of business here for the Avs. Get a few picks, shed over $7 million in cap space and get a good prospect on Brindley. I liked what I saw from Brindley from his draft year, so getting a good prospect in their thin pool definitely helps...

5 months ago the Avs had a struggling $5.75 million center and a $2.5 million winger. Both now off the books.
Bill Zito has had to swap out about 1/3 of his roster yearly.
Has acquired, signed, then re-signed most of the teamโs core players.
Has made trade deadline deals that helped win 2 Stanley Cups.
Has assembled the best front office in the league.
Has not won GM of the year.
Iโve got nothing but gratitude for Drouinโs time in Colorado, and I hope he gets a massive contract on the market this year. Great team guy who did the team a huge favor taking that one year deal last offseason.

Like I've said time and time again. The no-state tax advantage only works if you're already good. And once you're good, your top guys stay for less and it prolongsyour window.
So yes, it's absolutely a factor. But you have to build a good team for it to matter.
Burns is still a wildly effective defenseman. Coming with just a $1M cap hit this season, has the potential to be a huge add for Colorado in the bottom part of their D-Core.
We donโt have any beef with LA, but this is the second time in three years weโve opened the season in LA. I donโt get it. Iโve always believed that season openers should have some kind of juice behind them, but this whole slate doesnโt have anything.
