Thanks for a warm welcome - and a not bad cup of coffee, either. Expect to see me at a lego session at some point in the next few years! #dclinpsy

Meg Naylor / @MegNaylor.bsky.social Wishing you - all trainees - an enriching time thro’ all complexities of training. Some tips: be as open as you can, find (a) mentor(s), keep a tight diary with clear deadlines & lifelines, cherish yr family & friends, stay creative, consult service users/ carers as experts.

Meg Naylor / @MegNaylor.bsky.social I forgot maybe the biggest tip (applies to trainers & supervisors too). Try to be content with good-enoughness rather than perfection, because professional NHS training should be for co-operation towards a culture of care, not competition for personal achievement.

There's only one Attendance Contract needed in England's schools right now. Bridget Phillipson & Department for Education, you'd like to crack down on school absence. Okay. But first, you need to crack down on the things schools do which stop kids from learning. Let's take a tour... 🧵

I do think there’s a very unhelpful conflation of discovery learning and play. Play is freely chosen by the child and serves specific developmental functions in humans; it also happens to be how young children make sense of some aspects the world.

On a related note, a Navajo word for a pet, łį́į́ʼ, originally described a dog. But when horses were reintroduced to North America (and became the favoured “pet” in Navajo culture) the word łį́į́ʼ shifted to refer to a horse. Dogs were then called łééchąąʼí, meaning “shit pet”

Mid Devon Council has been overcharging tenants due to an error in historical rent calculations. Would love to speak to any tenants involved.

Lucie was one of life's bright lights. Gentle, warm and a winning smile. When I was younger I remember admiring the ease with which she carried herself. She used her abundant talent to make the world a better place, and there are no words for how much she will be missed ❤️

Feeling very privileged this evening to reflect on a day spent with such courageous, compassionate, hilarious people. How much I have to learn from them all.

I'm wondering at what point we need to start changing the message: "get yourself to hospital if you can" "it's better to carefully lift someone off the floor than wait hours for an ambulance" or - as Lucy Easthope says - "help isn't coming" buff.ly/49lZgxs

As is traditional in Ireland during big storms, we all await a news story from a windswept reporter that has been tied to a lamppost in Salthill while some gobshite in the background flies a small dog like a kite as the waves smash over a poorly parked Ford Focus #StormDarragh

Costliest in terms of 'value' of type of neighbourhoods destroyed. Is that what makes a disaster costly? What about human life, loss of belongings of people who already own almost nothing, long term impact of trauma etc - what is the cost then?
