.Microsoft President Brad Smith listens to a Delhi school student talk about disasters, and local innovations to beat the climate crisis. The visit to an informal community was linked to an #AI for Humanitarian Action initiative that SEEDS India runs with Microsoft support.

The project uses Sunny Lives, an AI model based on satellite imagery, the kind available on every phone, to interpret disaster risk at house cluster level. It then powers local volunteers to inform families in harm’s way about the specificity of the damage, and actions to take.

Brad and his team also gifted the school a weather lab, underscoring the fact that the fight against the climate crisis will be fought on the front-lines, with data, knowledge and local actions as ammunition.
