My most basic rules for new interns (and tbh something I have to say to myself): If you don’t stop to eat, you will never eat. Humans must eat to survive. It is not sustainable to not eat.

Saw a patient in clinic this week who described their feelings as an emotional roller coaster, but is striving for a lazy river and it's one of the best perspectives I've heard in awhile.

This star is taking her talents to the world of psychiatry! An incredibly thoughtful leader and advocate. They are lucky to have you, Rachel!

First day of school. My daughter is stressed because she has to figure out how to carry her books all day without a backpack- the school isn’t allowing them due to fear someone will sneak in a firearm. No matter your position on guns, where we are now isn’t working. 🤷🏽‍♂️

As someone who has struggled to show up as my best self in toxic working conditions, I wish more people realized our behaviors are a result of us AND the environment we are in. This idea, the fundamental attribution error, is one of the foundations of social psychology…

I am happy to announce I am interviewing for palliative care fellowship in the current cycle! Mostly wanted to express gratitude for and recognition of all the wonderful people I have met thus far along the interview trail. I am excited to be joining such a stellar bunch!

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to the wonderful The Warren Alpert Medical School students for this award. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a teacher first and a doctor second, and that learners and their experience is my #1 priority. This one means so much to me! ❤️🥹🙏🏻

The primary care shortage actually made national news tonight in NBC because people cannot find a doctor accepting patients. Increasing residency spots is vital, but without reducing debt and valuing the work, we aren’t gonna fix it fast enough. nbcnews.com/nightly-news/v…

New MSF statement on bombardment of hospitals in Gaza is horrifying: relentless bombing, hospitals surrounded by tanks, loss of contact with staff, many killed, hundreds trapped in wards, no electricity, ambulances can't move, children crying and screaming & maternity wards hit.

Mohammed Abu Mughaisib, deputy medical coordinator for Doctors Without Borders in Gaza, told The Post that workers at Al-Nasr Hospital had to leave babies in incubators behind as they evacuated yesterday when it was overtaken by Israeli forces: washingtonpost.com/world/2023/11/…

Med Twitter has become an even scarier place recently. Regardless of your background or views, you cannot tell me as a healthcare worker that you support the incredible harm and destruction being done inside Gaza’s hospitals. This is not the oath we all took.

I am absolutely thrilled to announce I matched Northwestern Medicine’s Hospice and Palliative Care fellowship yesterday! After almost a decade, I’ll be returning home to Chicago to join and learn from the best team. Congrats to all who matched this week!

Things I appreciated from palliative care clinic this morning: 1. Clear is kind. Delivering bad news is tough, but patients deserve the truth, when asked, always. 2. Adjusting to “new normal” after cancer can be even more isolating than going through treatment.

“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhuman.” -MLK Jr., March 25, 1966, annual meeting of Medical Committee for Human Rights. 57 years later, we are in the midst of overall worsening of health outcomes, especially for Black people.
