I got dinged on my first post-tenure review for not being involved in any book series or journal editorial boards. Is this normal? It seems unlikely that I would be invited to do these sorts of things at this point in my career!

It has been less than a year since I got tenure, and I still feel raw from the process. I am absolutely devastated by the news out of Florida this morning. My heart goes out to these faculty members -- I can't imagine what I would do in their shoes.

Crowdsourcing help: I need a catchy title for a new senior seminar on ancient history, preferably one that reflects the range of research projects that students could pursue (political, religious, military, social, cultural, etc.). Any ideas?

It's official -- I'm leading my first study abroad program next year. I'd love some tips/advice for how to make it a positive experience for both the students and for me!

My dissertation advisor emailed me to ask for feedback on something he wrote. I'm absolutely honored, but also paralyzed trying to figure out how to respond!

The Festschrift for Chris Faraone is up on the Routledge website now. The editors have been amazing to work with. (And amazingly patient too!) routledge.com/Magic-and-Reli…

Do you (or your publisher) really have to pay $100 for books to be listed on SBL Central and to be eligible for review in RBL? And this is in addition to sending the review copies! Perhaps I shouldn't be shocked by this, but I am!

I'm ready to bail. If anyone has a code for the other place, I'd love one! I'm also on the list of classicists looking for codes, but I thought I'd post just in case.

Taking a quick break from my Twitter hiatus to share that I recorded a podcast interview about my book, Contested Cures, with New Books Network (@newbooksnetwork.bsky.social) . Feel free to check it out (even if I can't bring myself to listen to it myself)!

If you are in Hampton Roads, join us on Friday for a lecture by Professor Jonathan Hall, sponsored by the Hellenic Studies endowment.

I can still hardly believe that my book, Contested Cures, won the Frank Moore Cross award at ASOR this year. I am humbled by this honor. My heartfelt thanks to the awards committee for taking the time to read my book!

Today is the annual sale at Edinburgh University Press in honor of the feast of St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland. This means that my book is significantly cheaper today (but still horribly expensive). edinburghuniversitypress.com/book-contested…
