The comparison game can be intense in academia, but it is built on the lie that there can only be one winner at the end of the game. Define what winning means for you and recognize that someone else achieving their win likely does not prevent you from achieving yours.

The allergy season kicked in - I can hardly open my eyes this morning. Upon receiving a reminder to review a paper, I realized that I am now perfectly positioned to perform a thorough "blind review". 🙂

We are deeply sorry for the opinions expressed in the recent piece published in our journal. We recognize the responsibility we have to our community and are conducting an internal investigation into this incident. Read our full statement here: ow.ly/XYht50A0sAF

I’m not surprised by this soft statement. What change do you make here? When they click publish is there a “are you sure” pop up smh. First it was “it needs tweaking” now it didn’t belong. Smh tragic that a journal with such power and prestige is acting so little.

Future grad students, please take into account location when you chose your school. I cannot stress this enough. Doing what you love is important, but living where you feel happy, comfortable, and somewhat at home is just as important.

It is with heavy heart that I say RIP to Prof. Joel Shulman. One of the best I’ve been around. I will do my best to carry on your life’s work.

I never wanted to have a role model and I certainly didn't want to be one. Adam Grant Adam Grant has an explanation and a Tim Urban Tim Urban picture to go with it. Tempted to pick them both as role models 😉.

My coworkers are cooler than yours! After hearing me ramble for a year about the mechanochemistry my group will be doing, @sasha_sundstrom made me stickers to recruit with as a parting gift! If you too are a mechanoenthusiast, drop her a follow and stay tuned for exciting news!

As always, a truly inspiring talk by James Mack at #SCIRES2023 I think we were all left convinced that mechanochemistry IS just chemistry; we just have to change the culture to reflect this 😉 Mechanochemistry SCIRES
