Humans are inherently fallible. Tested is all that counts. The only possible conclusion the social sciences can draw is: some do, some don't. E.R.

The EU is voting tonight on getting #Russia out of #Swift to support #Ukraine . Germany and Italy are holding against. German and Italian friends, make your voice heard. Enough. 🇪🇺 🇺🇦

SCIENCE: If you don't make mistakes, you're doing it wrong. If you don't correct those mistakes, you're doing it really wrong. If you can't accept that you're mistaken, you're not doing it at all.

“Never has our future been more unpredictable, never have we depended so much on political forces that cannot be trusted to follow the rules of common sense and self-interest—forces that look like sheer insanity, if judged by the standards of other centuries.” Hannah Arendt

Much of human ‘progress’ over the last centuries has come about through paying attention to the results of scientific observation A planetary emergency seems a strange time to stop

Fossil fuel interests are now cynically using the war in Ukraine to try to lock in a high carbon future. A shift to renewables is crucial to mending our broken global energy mix & offering hope to millions suffering climate impacts today.

Great rundown on SUDI ("SIDS") association with butyrylcholinesterase levels. Already around 80% reduction with guidelines. We may have a new clue to *some*, but by no means all of the remaining causes. This was a hypothesis forming study with significant weaknesses.

A reviewer just criticised our report because: "The choice of font is rather old fashioned." So ignorant. We used Times *NEW* Roman.

2. Hanlon's Razor: The number of genuinely evil people in the world is minuscule compared to the number of idiots, so never blame on malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity.

16. Deep Time: Cleopatra lived closer in time to the creation of Twitter than to the creation of the Great Pyramid. The T-Rex lived closer in time to us than to the Stegosaurus. These facts (and evolution) are counterintuitive because our minds cannot grasp the vastness of time.

Unreasonably tempted to write in the "power analysis" section of this grant proposal: "idk, N = 6,000 feels solid for an RCT, but we can apparate some parameters if you'd prefer"

Bike parking at Starship hospital is becoming progressively harder with less space and more bikes. Latest is a ramp that appeared one day to go over a pipe making access even harder and cones blocking entry. Perhaps more focus on eco transport and less on car parks? Bike Auckland
