Harm reduction saved my life. Years into recovery, I never forgot the kindness of Haven Wheelock. My family had forced me into treatment twice, only for me to relapse and OD. I walked into the syringe exchange scared and alone. I’d had a hep c exposure. 1/

So late retweeting this, but just started a cohort of mice in our SIP system for my first experiment in the SIT lab!! Very excited to see how things turn out 😎

Crossing these lines creates lasting trauma in victims that can make them leave that toxic workplace. Pls dont start with the: “But the PI didn’t do anything?” Because it was the PI’s JOB to do something. And we wonder why there is still a “leaky pipeline”??

The barriers and ramifications of reporting sexual misconduct are still prohibitively high. We will not see lasting change until the majority in positions of power—not just exceptional brave individuals—actively support and protect those harmed. Silence is part of the problem.

For Ph.D. students, choosing a supportive mentor is 100 times more important than choosing a PI who is working in the top/famous institution. #hapyresearchers Academic Chatter™

Please read this beautiful & deeply personal piece by a dear friend. ❤️ Eri writes about the power of harm reduction for ppl who use drugs, "defined by the dignity, compassion and connection we all deserve." In HuffPost: huffpost.com/entry/crack-fe…

Friendly reminder that you can make intro slides for SUD talks without including direct cues (ie realistic images of alcohol, pills, needles) As a field, we know about cue-induced reinstatement. A lot of SUD researchers had an SUD themselves and this is the least we can do.

Joshua Kimbrell (@joshkimbre) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It really is that simple. Harm reduction exists because people who use drugs are humans, and we must advocate for their safety. If you don't think you know anyone who uses drugs, you might not seem like someone they can trust. Be that person!

Excited to share our new Jeffrey Iliff lab work, “Macroscopic changes in aquaporin-4 underlie blast traumatic brain injury-related impairment in glymphatic function”, led by Molly Braun. Out today in Brain, Dr. Braun assessed rTBI in humans and mice. doi.org/10.1093/brain/…
